Merit Badges |
|
The merit badge program, which provides opportunities for youth to explore more than a hundred fields of skill and knowledge, plays a key role in the fulfillment of Scouting's educational commitment. A vital part of the BSA's advancement plan, the merit badge program is one of Scouting's basic character-building tools. Through participation in the program (which may begin immediately upon registration in the troop), a Scout acquires the kind of self-confidence that comes only from overcoming obstacles to achieve a goal. Instruction is offered in everything from animal science and public speaking to swimming and communications, providing a young man with invaluable career, physical, and interpersonal skills. |

Below, you will see images of each of the over 120 merit badges currently available. If you click on the picture of the badge you will go to an external website called the “US Scouting Service Project” or USSP. The page you are brought to should list the most up to date requirements for that particular Merit Badge. In addition to the actual requirements, each merit badge also has two series of worksheets available to download or print, in both MS Word and PDF formats. These worksheets may be helpful in completing the requirements for the merit badges. While these worksheets are NOT required, Scouts may be more likely to remember facts if they utilize them and take notes. The links to the worksheets are at the bottom of the page for each Merit Badge. |
